No mundo acadêmico, um "Festschrift" é um livro homenageando um acadêmico respeitado. O termo, emprestado do alemão, poderia ser traduzido como uma "publicação de celebração".
Um Festschrift contém contribuições originais oferecidas ao homenageado por seus mais próximos colegas acadêmicos, geralmente incluindo seus passados estudantes como também seus colegas de profissão. Pode variar desde um volume pequeno até uma obra de vários volumes.

Não há um aniversario pré-determinado para um Festschrift, no entanto são publicados geralmente em um sexagésimo aniversario acadêmico. No caso de acadêmicos muito proeminentes, varios Festschrift podem ser preparados. Na Alemanha é uma honra ser designado para preparar tal coleção e ser selecionado por um acadêmico proeminente para editar um Festschrift pode simbolizar a passagem proverbial da tocha. Já que não existe uma tradução inglesa para tal livro, a palavra alemã Festschrift é amplamente utilizada internacionalmente. Os Festschrift são geralmente intitulados como "Ensaios em honra de ... " ou "Ensaios apresentados para ...".

Andrew Samuels é um dos mais influentes e proeminentes pensadores junguianos na contemporaneidade. Há várias décadas ocupa um lugar de destaque e referência dentro do campo teórico e clínico na comunidade junguiana. Autor de uma vasta obra (incluindo o clássico livro Jung e os pós-junguianos) — a maioria dos títulos traduzidos para o português —, Andrew Samuels também é um assíduo visitante às terras brasileiras participando ao longo das últimas duas décadas de vários congressos, seminários e palestras organizados por grupos junguianos oficiais e independentes.

É com grande orgulho que nós do Rubicão aceitamos o convite para contribuir com o livro, escrevendo um de seus capítulos (Post-Jungians and In Praise of Multiplicity). Assim, prestamos nossa homenagem a este importante pensador e amigo junguiano: Andrew Samuels.
